AHRQ: Patients Under Age 5 Record Most ED Visits in 2009

Patients under the age of five experienced the highest volume of emergency department visits in 2009, according to statistics published by AHRQ’s Medical Expenditure Panel Survey.

Although this patient population saw the most ED visits, patient aged 45-64 saw the highest average emergency department cost per visit at $1,696. Here is a detailed outbreak of ED utilization and costs:
