For the report, CDC researchers analyzed 2007-16 abortion data self-reported by 47 states and New York City. Researchers also looked at census and natality data over the same time period to calculate abortion rates and ratios.
Four report findings:
1. In 2016, the CDC received 623,471 reports of abortions nationwide, representing a 2 percent drop from a year prior.
2. This figure marks a 24 percent decrease from the 825,240 abortions recorded in 2007.
3. Women ages 20-29 accounted for 58.5 percent of abortions reported in 2016.
4. Nearly 66 percent of abortions were performed at or before eight weeks’ gestation.
