Here are six things to know.
1. The Dr. Paul John Calricaraq project includes the construction of a 206,000-square-foot primary care clinic and acute care nursing unit. The project is named after the late Toksook Bay tribal leader and founding YKHC member.
2. Officials said the three-story primary care clinic and acute care nursing unit will provide residents in the region access to healthcare services, as the region is outgrowing its facilities. An inpatient clinic, labor and delivery clinic, six outpatient clinic areas, dental, behavioral health, lab, pharmacy and registration services will also be housed in the facility.
3. The clinic is expected to bring more than 200 jobs to the region.
4. Under the proposed project, 85,500 square feet of the 1980s-era Bethel, Alaska-based Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta Regional Hospital will also be renovated.
5. In addition, the project calls for the construction of a 54-unit housing space for the project’s staff.
6. Construction on the project began in fall 2016. Officials expect to complete all parts of the project by 2021.
