Wellstar MCG Health breaks ground on $272M Georgia hospital

Augusta, Ga.-based Wellstar MCG Health broke ground on its $272 million Wellstar Columbia County Medical Center on April 1.

The construction comprises a full-service acute care hospital with 100 inpatient beds; an emergency department; a surgical platform with operating rooms, cath labs, interventional radiology and endoscopy; and a 90,000-square-foot medical office building for services that include women’s health and primary care. 

The medical center is expected to open in 2026, according to an April 1 health system news release shared with Becker’s.

Wellstar is a nonprofit community health system that comprises 11 hospitals. As Georgia’s only public academic health center, Wellstar MCG Health is the primary teaching affiliate for the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta.
