Charlottesville, Va.-based UVA Health has exceeded its $1 billion fundraising goal as part of the University of Virginia’s Honor the Future campaign, which concludes this month.
Four things to know:
1. The milestone was reached after UVA Health received two anonymous $25 million estate gifts supporting the Paul and Diane Manning Institute of Biotechnology. The additional $50 million in funding further advances the institute’s mission to develop treatments for hard-to-treat and incurable diseases.
2. The Manning Institute launched in 2023 with a $100 million lead gift from philanthropists Paul and Diane Manning, followed by significant investments from the Commonwealth of Virginia and the university. A 350,000-square-foot research and manufacturing facility is currently under construction in Charlottesville and is expected to bolster biomedical innovation and economic growth in Central Virginia.
3. More than 52,000 donors contributed to UVA Health’s portion of the campaign, which supports patient care, research, education and community outreach.
4. The Honor the Future campaign, the largest in the university’s history, has raised over $6 billion across the entire organization, surpassing its $5 billion goal.
