The proposed project calls for transforming the aging hospital into a medical center with a 24/7 emergency department, short-stay overnight care, outpatient surgery and outpatient behavioral health services.
In addition, plans call for moving inpatient medical and surgical units and behavioral health services to Cheverly, Md.-based UM Prince George’s Hospital Center by fall 2018. UM Laurel would still provide primary care services, women’s health, lung health, wound care and chronic pain management.
If the project is approved, construction of the medical center would be completed in spring 2021.
