Tampa (Fla.) General hospital plans to build a 400-bed hospital in Lecanto, Fla., a spokesperson for the health system confirmed to Becker’s.
Three things to know:
1. Tampa General is in the early stages of planning the campus, which will include two hospital towers, two medical office buildings, a central energy plant, a helicopter pad and the existing freestanding emergency department.
2. Construction will occur over two phases: Phase one includes a 120,000-square-foot medical office and a 120-bed hospital tower; phase two would add another 120,000-square-foot medical office and a 280-bed hospital tower.
3. The Citrus County Board of Commissioners on April 8 unanimously approved the health system’s proposal to build the hospital, according to the Citrus County Chronicle.
“The proposed hospital in Citrus County will enable the surrounding communities to benefit from academic medicine in state-of-the-art facilities close to home, and a planned expansion will help meet the needs of the growing region,” the health system said in a statement shared with Becker’s.
Tampa General did not disclose the estimated cost of the development.
