But rather than abandon health reform, which has lost its filibuster-proof 60-vote majority in the Senate and its popularity among voters, Mr. Obama urged everyone “to take another look at the plan we’ve proposed.”
Calling the proposal “health-insurance reform,” he listed some general principles for it: cutting premiums, reducing the federal deficit, covering the uninsured, strengthening Medicare and regulating insurance companies.
Despite unyielding Republican opposition, Mr. Obama might have some success changing the public’s mind, if results from a recent nationwide poll are any indicator. It found that, a majority liked the reforms more when told about the specifics.
