Northwell hospital unveils $92M expansion project

Riverhead, N.Y.-based Peconic Bay Medical Center, a part of Northwell Health, unveiled a $92 million expansion project that will add a new Center for Women and Infants and boost emergency care services.

The hospital plans to expand its emergency department by 6,600 square feet. Peconic Bay has raised $30 million of its $50 million philanthropic goal to help pay for the endeavor, according to a June 5 Northwell news release.

Local philanthropists Thomas and Mary Jane Poole contributed $5 million, and the new emergency room will be named in their honor.

"With this investment, PBMC will extend access to health care for residents throughout Eastern Suffolk and further eliminate any barriers that once stood in the way," Michael Dowling, president and CEO of New Hyde Park, N.Y.-based Northwell Health, said in the release. "PBMC is a hospital dedicated to serving the people of this great community and it has continued to adapt to stay true to that mission as our area's population grows and our medical needs become more complex."
