Northside Hospital Atlanta has kicked off construction on a renovation and expansion of its emergency department.
The project includes the renovation of 7,815 square feet of existing floor space and the construction of a two-story, 67,537-square-foot expansion across the ground and first floors, according to an April 6 Northside Hospital news release.
The expansion will add 18 new treatment rooms, as well as a new entry, waiting room and triage area. There will also be space for two additional emergency care teams.
Renovations to the existing department will improve efficiency while maintaining operations during construction, according to the release. Initial sitework began April 6.
A new 17,000-square-foot, 54-space parking structure for ED patients and visitors is also being constructed.
“As the Sandy Springs area and surrounding communities continue to experience rapid growth, the need for increased emergency care capacity has become increasingly important,” said Chris Munn, director of emergency services for Northside Hospital System.
The project is expected to be completed in early 2028.
Northside Hospital did not immediately respond to a request for the project’s estimated cost.
