Sen. Nelson asked the FCC to make the funding permanent, citing the 2004 change to the definition of “rural” hospitals that made the four facilities ineligible for the funding for telehealth broadband. While the FCC has granted a temporary extension so the facilities continue to receive funding, the extension will end in June 2011.
The Nebraska Public Service Commission joined Sen. Nelson in asking the FCC to make the funding permanent.
