Lakeland (Fla.) Regional Health is expanding its freestanding emergency department network, with two new Florida locations over the next two years in the works, which will grow its network to three such facilities.
The total project cost for both freestanding EDs, and their land, will be $55 million, Patrick Phillips, senior vice president of business development and chief strategy officer of Lakeland Regional Health, said in a statement shared with Becker’s.
The first new freestanding ED will serve the Winter Haven (Fla.) area and open in mid-2027. It will be followed by a second site on U.S. 98 North at Marcum Road in Lakeland, which will open in early 2028. LRH opened its inaugural freestanding ED in March 2025, according to a news release shared with Becker’s.
Both locations will be 14,500-square-feet and will operate 24/7. They will comprise 14 exam rooms, a triage room and emergency services including CT scans, X-rays, ultrasounds and on-site labs. Lakeland (Fla.) Regional Health Medical Center will be “minutes away” from both freestanding EDs, the system said.
