HCA unit plans new mental health hospital in Texas

Dallas-based Medical City Healthcare plans to build a new 65,000-square-foot mental health hospital in Fort Worth, Texas, to meet growing demand for such facilities in the area.

The proposed hospital, which will feature 88 inpatient beds split between 24 for adolescents, 48 for adults and 16 for seniors, would also feature an outdoor healing garden and courtyard space for physical activity for both inpatient and outpatient users, the report said.

Medical City is part of the Nashville-based HCA Healthcare network. Plans for the Medical City Mental Health Wellness Alliance facility began in early 2021, said Brandy Hart, HCA Healthcare regional vice president for behavioral health services, according to a Dec. 29 Community Impact report.

"Tarrant County is under-bedded from a behavioral hospital standpoint," she said. "We knew with the population growth expected in the next two to five years there would be an increased need and an increased presence of mental health concerns."

The hospital is scheduled to open in the spring of 2024.
