Greenville, N.C.-based ECU Health has received state approval to move forward with its $138 million expansion at ECU Health Medical Center.
The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services gave conditional approval to add five operating rooms, including four C-section ORs and one trauma OR, according to a Feb. 6 letter from the department.
The project will also include renovations to modernize surgical services at the hospital, an ECU Health spokesperson said in a March 18 statement shared with Becker’s.
“This project is critical to meeting the significant and growing demand for tertiary and quaternary surgical services across our vast rural region of more than 1.4 million people,” the spokesperson said. “By expanding operating room capacity at the Medical Center in Greenville, ECU Health is investing now in core capabilities while preparing for substantial financial pressures expected as a result of last year’s federal reconciliation bill, which is likely to have devastating impacts on rural health care nationwide in the near future.”
The department-approved timeline includes services being offered by Oct. 1, 2029.
