Kent Hospital in Warwick, R.I., has shared plans for a $97 million construction project that will expand clinical capacity and modernize key services. The hospital is part of Providence, R.I.-based Care New England.

The Kent Hospital expansion project will comprise a 90,000-square-foot ambulatory services building, an expansion of its cardiac catheterization suite, an expansion and modernization of the hospital’s emergency department, and a new main entrance space, according to an April 8 news release shared with Becker’s

The project will be financed through the Federal Housing Administration’s Section 242 loan program of the Department of Housing and Urban Development, including a mix of capital, financing and philanthropic support, a spokesperson for the system confirmed with Becker’s.

Kent Hospital’s three-story ambulatory building will create a new OB-GYN practice, expand the cardiovascular practice, integrate pulmonary and thoracic surgery practices and implement a multidisciplinary medical specialties practice. The hospital also plans to recruit 18 clinicians to staff the expanded services.

Kent Hospital will remain fully operational during the project, which will kick off in April and is expected to be completed in March 2028.

“This investment reflects our deep commitment to the health and well-being of our community,” Carolyn Jackson, hospital president and COO, said in the release. “As demand for care continues to grow, this project ensures we are prepared to meet that need not just for today, but for generations to come.”

Becker’s has reached out to Care New England for the project cost and will update this story should more information become available.
