Bon Secours Mercy Health opens Virginia hospital: 5 notes

Cincinnati-based Bon Secours Mercy Health has opened its first smart hospital, Bon Secours Harbour View Medical Center in Suffolk, Va.

Five notes:

1. The $85 million, 100,000-square-foot hospital will begin serving patients May 6, according to a May 5 news release shared with Becker’s. Construction began in October 2022.

2. The facility adjoins the Bon Secours Health Center at Harbour View and includes 18 private inpatient rooms and four operating rooms.

3. As the system’s first smart hospital, its inpatient rooms are equipped with technologies such as safety sensors to detect patients’ fall risks and movement, virtual nursing capabilities and digital whiteboards that display real-time patient information.

4. Harbour View Medical Center also offers women’s imaging services, cancer radiation therapy and orthopedic care.

5. The expansion will create more than 100 new jobs, according to the release.
