Clearwater, Fla.-based BayCare Health System broke ground on a $548 million hospital and outpatient facility in Palmetto, Fla., on April 30.

Four things to know:

1. Once opened in 2028, BayCare Manatee Hospital will be the system’s 17th hospital and first nonprofit facility in Manatee County, according to an April 30 news release.

2. The facility is expected to open in 2028 with 154 private beds and capacity to expand to 207.

3. The campus will also include a 45,000-square-foot BayCare HealthHub facility slated to open in 2026. The medical building will house primary and specialty care, laboratory and imaging services.

4. The project comes amid BayCare’s $4 billion disaffiliation from Livonia, Mich.-based Trinity Health — a move executives say ushers in a new era of local governance and strategic agility as the system looks to scale amid rising competition in Florida’s healthcare market.
