Baptist Health South Florida breaks ground on $500M hospital

Construction has begun on Baptist Health Sunrise (Fla.) Hospital, a 100-bed inpatient facility.

Five things to know:

1. The planned seven-story, 340,000-square-foot facility is expected to open to patients in 2029 and will serve residents of Sunrise and western Broward County, according to a Jan. 28 news release from Baptist Health.

2. Baptist Health Sunrise Hospital represents a more than $500 million investment, a health system spokesperson confirmed to Becker’s.

3. At full capacity, the hospital will have 100 inpatient beds, including 10 critical care beds. It will also include a 30-bed emergency department with three triage areas and around-the-clock emergency care.

4. The campus is slated to feature four surgical suites with robotic-assisted capabilities and a 25,000-square-foot medical office building for outpatient and specialty services. Plans also call for 1,080 parking spaces across a five-story parking garage and surface lots, along with a 15-acre conservation easement.

5. Baptist Health said the hospital will integrate artificial intelligence-enabled clinical systems and digital tools across its network.

The system operates 12 hospitals and employs more than 29,000 people.
