Allegheny Health Network, a member of Highmark Health, both based in Pittsburgh, plans to build a nearly $200 million hospital, a health system spokesperson confirmed to Becker’s. The facility will replaceAHN Canonsburg (Pa.) Hospital, which has operated at its current location since 1983.

The approximately 150,000-square-foot facility will sit on a 10-acre site. Construction is expected to start in early 2027, pending regulatory approval, with an anticipated opening in 2029, according to a June 4 news release from the health system.

AHN’s new Canonsburg Hospital will include primary, emergency, surgical and critical care services. It will also feature a medical office building with physician offices and outpatient clinics. All clinical programs will align with AHN’s clinical institutes.

The hospital campus is expected to create hundreds of construction jobs and permanent healthcare jobs once open. Approximately 400 existing AHN Canonsburg employees will transition to equivalent roles at the new hospital.

The news follows AHN’s expansion in Western Pennsylvania over the last seven years, including five hospitals, six new cancer centers, six large-scale Health + Wellness Pavilions, outpatient facilities and emergency department expansions.

“For more than a century, Canonsburg Hospital and its dedicated caregivers have provided this community with exceptional health care services, and that legacy is foundational to our vision for this beautiful new facility and the critical role it will play in improving the health and wellness of our patients,” AHN President Mark Sevco said in the release. “We are excited to get started on this important next chapter for AHN in Canonsburg and Washington County and to making world class health care even more accessible to those who live here.”
