Downers Grove, Ill.-based Advocate Health Care has received the Chicago Plan Commission’s approval for its new, $300 million hospital and care investment on the city’s South side.
“This represents an important step in the process as we continue our work to address long-standing gaps in access to care for patients throughout our South Side communities,” a spokesperson for Advocate said in a statement shared with Becker’s.
The 52-bed hospital will replace the existing Advocate Trinity Hospital once it opens; that facility is more than a century old. It will comprise 36 medical surgery beds, four intensive care unit beds, eight dedicated observation beds, a four-bed dialysis unit and an emergency room with 16 beds and bays.
The hospital is part of Advocate’s $1 billion care investment plan for the South Side. It comprises $300 million to build the new hospital, more than $200 million to invest in hospital and outpatient programs and services and more than $500 million to expand outpatient care, which includes the establishment of 10 new Advocate Health Care Neighborhood Care locations.
