Walmart may launch video streaming service for $8 a month, report says

Walmart is thinking about launching a subscription streaming video service that would be priced lower than Netflix and Amazon Prime Video, sources familiar with the matter told The Information.

While lining up programming for the service would cost Walmart billions, it would also show that the company is looking for multiple ways to compete with Amazon.

Walmart is considering pricing the service below $8 a month, one source told The Information, and is mulling an ad-supported free service. Netflix charges its customers between $8 and $14 dollars a month, a price that has been consistently rising. Amazon charges an $8.99 monthly fee for its Prime Video service.

Walmart is still discussing the possible service. The company's executives believe customers in middle America would be interested in a streaming service with a lower price tag, as Amazon and Netflix are more popular on the coasts, according to the report. A Walmart spokesperson did not provide The Information immediate comment.
