Uber appeared in the Westminster Magistrates' Court June 25 to prove it is fit to operate in London after a city regulatory agency took away its license, according to CNBC.
Transport for London told Uber lat year that it lacked corporate responsibility in relation to public safety and security, and did not renew the company's license to operate in the city. However, Uber has been allowed to operate since October 2017 while it appeals the ruling.
Over 3.6 million London residents regularly use Uber and nearly 45,000 are registered with the service. As part of its appeal, Uber agreed to report serious incidents to the police instead of leaving it to riders and drivers, and it has also mandated six hour breaks for drivers after 10 hours of work.
Uber is requesting an 18-month license from regulators as opposed to the five-year license it requested last year.
