Nike selects Colin Kaepernick to be face of slogan's 30th anniversary campaign

Former NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick, who took a knee during the national anthem in 2016 while playing for the San Francisco 49ers to protest racism and police brutality, will be prominently featured in the ad campaign for the 30th anniversary of Nike's "Just Do It" slogan, according Fortune.

Nike hasn't formally shared details of its contract with Mr. Kaepernick, but sources close to the deal say it includes a new apparel line for him as well as a contribution to his Know Your Rights charity, which raises awareness of higher education, self-empowerment and law enforcement interaction techniques.

The campaign's tagline "Believe in something. Even if it means sacrificing everything," is a nod to Mr. Kaepernick's on-field protests and subsequent lack of NFL work since. He and his lawyers allege NFL owners have colluded to blackball him because of his protest.

Opponents of Mr. Kaepernick's protests have criticized Nike for the move, though many others have commended the campaign.
