Equifax hires new chief information security officer

Equifax named Jamil Farshchi its new chief information security officer, the Atlanta-based consumer credit reporting agency announced Feb. 13.

Here are four  things to know.

1. Mr. Farshchi previously served as CISO at The Home Depot. Before that, he was the first Global CISO at Time Warner.  He has also held senior roles at Visa, Los Alamos National Laboratory, Sitel Corporation, Nextwave Broadband and NASA.

2. In his new role at Equifax, Mr. Farshchi will take over company-wide leadership of ongoing work  to transform its information security program. He will also collaborate with the industry to share best practices on information security.  

3. "We are pleased to welcome Jamil to our team and confident that he possesses the talent and skillset needed to continue our journey toward developing industry-leading security practices and, ultimately, to help us regain trust with consumers and customers," Paulino do Rego Barros Jr., interim CEO at Equifax, said in a press release.  "Jamil has a reputation for helping enterprises rebuild and fortify information security programs.  His expertise in risk intelligence and cybersecurity combined with his intimate knowledge of industry best practices will allow us to design and deploy a best-in-class, global security strategy to re-establish ourselves as a trusted leader."

4. He holds a master's degree from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania and a bachelor's degree in business administration from the University of Oklahoma.  He also completed Harvard Business School's program for leadership development.
