EBay accuses Amazon of merchant poaching

EBay is accusing Amazon of trying to poach merchants for its own marketplace through eBay's seller messaging system, according to The Wall Street Journal.

EBay recently began investigating the matter after a seller reportedly alerted the company of someone using eBay's messaging system to convince the seller to move to Amazon.

EBay alleges Amazon has violated California's Comprehensive Computer Data Access and Fraud Act. The company issued a cease-and-desist order to Amazon on Oct. 1, demanding it stop the alleged recruiting practice.

An Amazon spokesperson told WSJ the company is investigating the allegations.
