Survey: Perioperative IT Will Drive OR Success, 90 Percent of Anesthesiologists Say

Atlanta-based Surgical Information Systems released a survey of anesthesiologists and found 90 percent believe perioperative IT solutions are a strategic driver of success in the operating room.

Also, 99 percent agree IT plays an important role in their job. The survey asked anesthesiologists to identify top strategies to accommodate growth since 67 percent have seen case loads increase and 87 percent expect the trend to continue.

•    63 percent said efficiency improvements are needed to adapt to expected growth
•    67 percent said closely managing scheduling accuracy was key to reduce costs
•    63 percent said more closely managing overall workflow is valuable

When asked about important attributes that make a hospital desirable to practice in, 79 percent said increased accuracy in billing, 77 percent said automated anesthesia services billing processes and 77 percent said a more organized work day.
