Richmond-based VCU Health named John Delzell Jr., MD, its designated institutional officer and senior associate dean for Graduate Medical Education for the Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine.

Dr. Delzell, a family medicine physician, will oversee all of VCU Health’s graduate medical education residency and fellowship programs. He also will be the primary institutional liaison with the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education, according to a March 9 system news release. He will also ensure high-quality training opportunities in all programs while overseeing institutional initiatives to support resident and fellow well-being.

He steps into his new role March 29 and succeeds Brian Aboff, MD, who served in the role since 2017.
