Rochester, Minn., offered the highest average annual physician compensation adjusted for cost of living in 2024 among other metropolitan areas in the U.S., according to Doximity’s “Physician Compensation Report 2025.” Boston had the lowest.
The report is based on more than 37,000 physician compensation surveys completed in 2024. Over the past six years, the firm has collected data from more than 230,000 compensation surveys. Each survey was completed by a full-time U.S. physician who works at least 40 hours per week. Responses were mapped to metropolitan statistical areas and the analysis includes the 60 most-represented MSAs.
To adjust for cost of living, Doximity examined the 2023 regional price parities of MSAs published by the Bureau of Economic Analysis.
