Nashville, Tenn.-based Vanderbilt University Medical Center, UT Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, and the University of Alabama at Birmingham were selected as winners. Criteria to be considered for the award included featuring men in recruitment materials and website images, evidence of employee wellness programs tailored to men’s health, strategic plans to increase gender diversity, and historical evidence demonstrating an increase in the number of men in nursing recruited and retained by the organization.
About 10% of nurses at Vanderbilt University Medical Center are men, the hospital said in a Nov. 1 news release about receiving the recognition. This year marks the fourth time VUMC has been awarded. This is the first time UAB Medicine has been named a best workplace for men in nursing, and the fifth year straight its nursing school has been awarded.
