Roughly 1,700 Wyoming households erroneously received hospital bill statements from Rawlins, Wyo.-based Memorial Hospital Carbon County, according to a Rawlins Daily Times report.

The bills were sent out due to a communication error between the hospital and a collections agency, the report said. The hospital produced a reconciling report to make sure account balances were accurate between the two entities, but the collections agency thought the accounts listed were new collection accounts.

The hospital apologized for the error.
