Myrtue Medical Center (Harlan, Iowa). Not only does this rural hospital — located in western Iowa, not far from Omaha, Neb. — offer acute care, it is integrated with medical clinics in Harlan and five other nearby towns. It also offers behavioral health services, a wellness center and an aquatic complex. Recently, Myrtue Medical Center completed an expansion and renovation project that involved moving the surgery and outpatient departments and the lab, expanding the radiology department and updating the birthing center. This year, Myrtue Medical Center was named a Top 20 Critical Access Hospital by the National Rural Health Association, as well as a Top 100 Critical Access Hospital from iVantage Health Analytics.
