David Bernd. CEO of Sentara Health (Norfolk, Va.). Mr. Bernd has served as CEO of Sentara health for more than 20 years, overseeing the $4.5 billion health system comprising 12 acute care hospitals, more than 950 provider medical groups and health plans covering 450,000 people. In 2004, he served as chairman of the American Hospital Association board of trustees and was named to the Measuring Innovation in the 21st Century Economy Advisory Committee of the U.S. Department of Commerce in 2007. He was named among Virginia’s top 50 most influential people by Virginia Business Magazine in 2007 and is a fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives.
