The cardiovascular care at the University of Alabama Hospital at Birmingham treats patients with heart failure, valve disease, vascular disease, congenital heart disease and pulmonary vascular disease, among other conditions. UAB Hospital contains a 21-bed cardiac care unit for critically ill medical cardiology or post-procedure cardiac patients. The hospitalís specialized services include heart transplant and cardiopulmonary rehabilitation. UAB Hospital was ranked the No.1 hospital overall in Alabama and the No. 37 hospital in the nation for cardiology and heart surgery in U.S. News & World Report 2016-17 rankings. The hospital also earned high-performing designations for heart failure, bypass and aortic valve surgery in its common care ratings from U.S. News & World Report. UAB Hospital is a Magnet-designated health center that a received a three-star rating from the Society of Thoracic Surgeons.
