Baystate Medical Center (Springfield, Mass.). Baystate Medical Center, part of Springfield, Mass.-based Baystate Health, serves as an academic, research and teaching hospital. The 716-bed facility acts as the western campus of Tufts University School of Medicine in Boston.

Baystate Medical Center is the only Level I trauma center in western Massachusetts and is home to the second-busiest emergency department in the state. The Magnet-designated medical center is the only hospital in the nation to win the Beacon Award for Critical Care Excellence from the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses four consecutive times.

The medical center recently completed construction of a new 600,000-square-foot facility, featuring a state-of-the-art Heart & Vascular Center.

For 2014-15, U.S. News & World Report ranked Baystate Medical Center No. 3 in Massachusetts, and nationally ranked three of its specialties in the top 50 in the nation, including diabetes and endocrinology, otolaryngology and gynecology. The hospital was also named to Healthgrades’ list of “Top Hospitals for 2015.”
