Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center (West Islip, N.Y.). Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center is a 537-bed nonprofit member hospital of Catholic Health Services of Long Island. It has 850 physicians, 1,300 nurses and more than 2,000 support staff. The hospital's Birth Place counted 2,820 births in the most recent year and allowed those babies to stay alongside their mothers for most of the day and evening. When new mothers leave the hospital, their care from Good Samaritan isn't over. The hospital organizes support groups for postpartum depression and services spanning women's health needs, including breast health. Its Breast Health Center was the second in New York to be fully accredited by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers, which is administered by the American College of Surgeons. Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center is ranked No. 12 in the nation by CareChex for women's health patient safety.
