Steven Shapiro, MD. Executive Vice President and Chief Medical and Scientific Officer of UPMC (Pittsburgh). Dr. Steven Shapiro is president of UPMC’s health services division as well as executive vice president and chief medical and scientific officer for the more than 30-hospital health system. Dr. Shapiro’s staff consists of more than 4,000 employed physicians who work in collaboration with the University of Pittsburgh Schools of Health Science and UPMC Insurance Services Division to promote evidence-based care pathways and population health models to provide value-based care to patients. Dr. Shapiro chaired UPMC’s department of medicine before being promoted to chief medical and scientific officer in 2010.
