Judie Charlton, MD. CMO of WVU Medicine (Morgantown, W.Va.). Dr. Charlton has held a variety of leadership and executive roles at WVU Medicine since she joined the Morgantown, W.Va.-based WVU School of Medicine in 1989. She was appointed department chair of ophthalmology in 2008, working her way up to become CMO in September 2011. As CMO, she serves as the primary physician executive for the 10-hospital system. Under her leadership, WVU Medicine was named the state’s largest employer in 2016, with a staff of 15,695 employees, including 372 residents and 46 fellows. The system also witnessed 1,472,426 clinical visits in 2016 and conducted 19,646 inpatient surgeries systemwide the same year.
