Carlos Pellegrini, MD. CMO of UW Medicine and Vice President for Medical Affairs of the University of Washington (Seattle). In December 2015, UW Medicine named Dr. Pellegrini the health system’s first CMO, responsible for providing executive leadership and strategic guidance for integrating clinical practice with the health system’s education and research activities. He also oversees efforts to transform clinical practice in accordance with the triple aim. A gastrointestinal surgeon, Dr. Pellegrini developed a minimally invasive treatment for achalasia and performed the first surgery in 1991; since then, he has trained another generation of surgeons in the procedure. He served as The Henry N. Harkins Professor and Chair of the Department of Surgery at UW Medicine from 1996 until 2015.
