Dallas-based Tenet Healthcare dropped Humana health insurance plans following failed contract negotiations, Humana confirmed.
As of Sept. 30, Tenet terminated its network agreement with the Louisville, Ky.-based insurer for Medicare Advantage, commercial, Medicaid, individual health plans offered through the public exchange and Tricare product offerings, Humana spokesperson Ross McLerran told Becker's Hospital Review.
"Humana is still in negotiation with Tenet on a new contract, but so far we've been unable to come to terms on a new arrangement that's fair and reasonable for our health plan members and customers," Mr. McLerran said. He added Humana communicated the change to affected members.
Tenet spokesperson Charles Nicolas confirmed effective Oct. 1, Humana was out of network with Tenet physicians, hospitals, ambulatory surgery centers, urgent care centers, imaging centers, laboratories and home health centers.
Mr. Nicolas wrote in an emailed statement, "Despite our repeated efforts to find common ground, Humana made it clear they would rather compromise their members' access to our physicians and hospitals rather than work together to complete a contract."
"We remain open to discussions with Humana should they decide to fully commit to completing a contract," Mr. Nicolas wrote.
Tenet said it will focus on helping patients through the coverage transition. Regardless of network status, patients with Humana health plans can still receive care at Tenet's emergency departments.
Tenet operates 79 general acute care hospitals, 20 surgical hospitals and over 470 outpatient centers in the U.S.
