Temple University Health System Eliminates 75 Jobs

Philadelphia-based Temple University Health System is eliminating 75 full- and part-time jobs from its Jeanes Hospital, according to a Philadelphia Inquirer report.

In the fiscal year ending June 30, Jeanes admissions are expected to fall 10 percent, according to the report. To curb the loss, Temple is planning to convert the 176-bed hospital in Philadelphia to one with "primarily private rooms," according to the report. Management expects to use 112 beds each day for full admissions under that new arrangement.

A Temple spokesperson told the Inquirer that Jeanes will operate as a community hospital with certain clinical specialties, such as cardiovascular services, ear, nose, and throat services, neurology and neurosurgery, and orthopedic surgery.

Affected employees include clinicians, ancillary technical staff, management and support personnel, according to the report. All will be considered for employment in open positions elsewhere in the system.
