Rhode Island hospital cuts 50 jobs

Landmark Medical Center in Woonsocket, R.I., has laid off some 50 full-time employees, according to a Valley Breeze report.

The affected employees were notified that their positions had been cut Thursday.

The jobs cut included some employees from the main Landmark facility, as well as several from North Smithfield-based Rehabilitation Hospital of Rhode Island, according to the report.

A Landmark spokeswoman said in a statement to the Valley Breeze that "most" of the affected positions were vacant and did not involve direct patient care.

The layoff news comes more than two years after Ontario, Calif.-based Prime Healthcare Services, completed its deal to purchase Landmark. Over the past two years, the facility has seen millions in investment through repairs and improvements in equipment, according to the report.
