6 key tips to manage star employees
While many believe that a hands-off approach is the best way to allow a star employee to thrive, Harvard Business Review has put together six tips for best managing high-achieving workers.
- Be development minded and make sure to ask what your employee's goals are and what you can do to help them work toward them.
- Autonomy is a good way to make sure star employees feel trusted and responsible.
- Don't over-compliment and inflate a star's ego. Instead, focus compliments on specific achievements.
- Manage your star's workload in order to avoid burnout.
- Don't play favorites and instead be mindful of group dynamics. Make sure other employees do not grow resentful toward the treatment your star employee receives.
- Encourage relationship-building, even though your star may be able to thrive without help. Without the ability to network and collaborate with others, your star will not reach their full potential.
