HIMSS honors 5 policy leaders during National Health IT Week

In honor of National Health IT Week, HIMSS recognized five IT public policy leaders for their contributions to advancing health through IT.

HIMSS awarded two Congressional Leadership Awards, two Federal Leadership Awards and a State Legislator of the Year Award.

HIMSS Congressional Leadership Award: Sen. Lamar Alexander (R-Tenn.): Sen. Alexander is the chairman of the Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee. He was first elected to the U.S. Senate in 2002 and was reelected to a third term in 2014.

HIMSS Congressional Leadership Award: Senator Patty Murray (D-Wash.): Sen. Murray is a ranking member of the Senate HELP Committee and is a leader on education, transportation, budget issues, port security, healthcare, women and veteran's issues.

HIMSS Federal Leadership Award: David Bowen: Mr. Bowen serves as director of health IT, directorate for the Defense Health Agency and CIO of the Military Health System.

HIMSS Federal Leadership Award: Christopher Miller: Since September 2013, Mr. Miller has been program executive officer for the Defense Healthcare Management System for the Department of Defense. His office oversees the Defense Healthcare Management System Modernization contract, among other projects.

HIMSS State Legislator of the Year Award: Colorado State Rep. Perry Buck (R-Colo-49): Rep. Buck has been a leader in facilitating economic development in rural communities of Northeastern Colorado. She was appointed as the Northeast Business Development Representative for the Colorado Office of Economic Development in 1999.
