HHS names Beth Anne Killoran permanent CIO

After serving as acting deputy CIO of HHS since October 2014, Beth Anne Killoran has been named the department's permanent CIO, effective this week.

Ms. Killoran will lead HHS' work on IT and cybersecurity, focusing on four key projects to support a "cyber-savvy" workplace, according to a post by HHS Acting Deputy Secretary Mary Wakefield, PhD, RN.

Ms. Killoran will advance the Cybersecurity Communication, Awareness, Response, and Education initiative providing weekly tips to HHS staff on how to keep data safe from cyber threats; launch a phishing campaign program to conduct simulated attacks to better prepare HHS staff; conduct a cybersecurity discussion series; and launch a workforce development pilot project to define requirements for today's IT workforce.

Prior to joining HHS, Ms. Killoran spent 11 years in various leadership roles with the Department of Homeland Security.
