UNC Health Care beats budgeted operating income by $61M

Chapel Hill, N.C.-based UNC Health Care reported operating income of $82 million through the first eight months of its fiscal 2015 — $61 million more than the system predicted it would record, according to a Triangle Business Journal report.

UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill was the force behind the system's strong operating income. UNC Hospitals recorded operating income of $116 million in the first eight months of the fiscal year, significantly more than the operating income of $58 million UNC Health Care had budgeted.  

Additionally, a UNC Health Care spokeswoman told the Triangle Business Journal that the system's implementation of an Epic EHR system contributed to its strong operating income.
