Retiring Mich. physician caps 61-year career with $2M donation to Beaumont Hospital

As he wraps up a 61-year-long career, a retiring cardiologist will donate $2 million to Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak, Mich., according to the Detroit Free Press.

Gerald C. Timmis, MD, 85, will retire from Beaumont Hospital at the end of January, where he has served on the medical staff for 51 years. Previously, he held appointments at the Wayne State University School of Medicine in Detroit and the Oakland University William Beaumont Hospital School of Medicine in Rochester, Mich.

His gift will create an endowed chair at the hospital in memory of his late wife, Dorothy, who passed away in 2004.

Simon Dixon, MD, system chair of the department of cardiovascular medicine at Royal Oak, Mich.-based Beaumont Health System, will be the inaugural holder of the Dorothy Susan Timmis Endowed Chair of Cardiology, according to the report.
