Physicians, teaching hospitals: 2014 Open Payments data review and dispute period begins

CMS has announced the period for physicians and teaching hospitals to review and dispute 2014 Open Payments data began April 6 and lasts 45 days.

The Open Payments program provides public data from manufacturers and group purchasing organizations about their financial relationships with physicians and hospitals.

Participation in the Open Payments program is voluntary for physicians and teaching hospitals. However, if physicians and hospitals choose to participate, they can register for Open Payments in the CMS Enterprise Portal, review transactions, dispute inaccurate data and provide reasoning for the dispute in the 45 day period.

Following this period, manufacturers and GPOs will have 15 days to resolve and correct any disputes. Data will be publicly available June 30. If disputes are unresolved after this time or were submitted late, they will be published online with an indication that they are currently disputed.

Physicians and teaching hospitals can register here, or if they previously registered can access the CMS Enterprise Portal here.
