IASIS Healthcare records Q4 operating loss of $76.3M: 7 things to know

IASIS Healthcare said consolidated revenue increased in the fourth quarter of fiscal year 2016, but the Franklin, Tenn.-based hospital network ended the quarter with an operating loss.

Here are seven things to know about the system's most recent financials.

1. IASIS posted consolidated revenue of $814.4 million in the fourth quarter of FY 2016, up 13.7 percent from $716.6 million in the same period of the year prior.

2. The financial boost was fueled, in part, by an increase in patient volume. IASIS said admissions were up 0.9 percent in the fourth quarter compared to the same period of 2015. When adjusted for outpatient activity, admissions increased 0.1 percent year over year.

3. IASIS said revenue attributable to its managed care network totaled $329 million in the fourth quarter, up 35.9 percent from the same period of 2015.

4. The hospital network's expenses grew faster than revenue, increasing 25.2 percent year over year to $900.3 million in the fourth quarter of FY 2016.

5. IASIS ended the fourth quarter of FY 2016 with an operating loss of $76.3 million, compared to an operating loss of nearly $3 million in the same period of the year prior.

6. In FY 2016, IASIS posted consolidated revenue of $3.25 billion, up 17.5 percent from $2.77 billion in the year prior.

7. IASIS ended FY 2016 with an operating loss of $117 million, compared to an operating gain of $6.8 million in the year prior.
