Financial updates from Kaiser, Mayo Clinic, UMass Memorial & 5 other systems

The following eight hospitals and health systems recently released their financial statements for either fiscal year 2016 or calendar year 2016.  

1. Springfield, Mass.-based Baystate Health recorded revenues of $2.35 billion in FY 2016, up 10 percent from revenues of $2.14 billion the year prior. Baystate ended FY 2016 with operating income of $28.98 million, down 52 percent from $59.79 million the year prior.

2.Cone Health recorded revenues of $1.68 billion in FY 2016, up from $1.55 billion in the year prior. The Greensboro, N.C.-based system ended FY 2016 with operating income of $33.29 million, down from $55.79 million in FY 2015.

3.Orlando (Fla.) Health recorded revenues of $2.5 billion in FY 2016, up 5.7 percent from revenues of $2.3 billion in the year prior. The system ended FY 2016 with operating income of $172.7 million, down 4.5 percent from operating income of $180.8 million in the year prior.

4. Oakland, Calif.-based Kaiser Permanente said operating revenue for its nonprofit hospital and health plan unit climbed 6.4 percent year over year to $64.6 billion in 2016. After factoring in expenses, Kaiser ended 2016 with operating income of $1.9 billion, up from $1.8 billion in the year prior.

5. Rochester, Minn.-based Mayo Clinic recorded revenues of $10.9 billion in 2016, up 6.6 percent from revenues of $10.3 billion in 2015. Mayo saw its operating income fall from $526 million in 2015 to $475 million in 2016.

6. Macon, Ga.-based Navicent Health reported revenues of $752 million in FY 2016, down 1.6 percent from the year prior. Navicent ended FY 2016 with operating income of $10.8 million, down 75 percent from $43.4 million in FY 2015.

7. Evanston, Ill.-based NorthShore University HealthSystem recorded revenues of $2.05 billion in FY 2016, up 4.6 percent from $1.96 billion in the year prior. NorthShore ended FY 2016 with operating income of $138.88 million, a 6.8 percent decrease from operating income of $149.09 million in FY 2015.

8. Worchester, Mass.-based UMass Memorial Health reported revenues of $2.4 billion in FY 2016, up 5.8 percent from the year prior. The system ended the most recent fiscal year with operating income of $40.7 million, down from $72.2 million in FY 2015.
