The McDonald’s on Fifth Street in Ellwood City will interview and immediately hire the laid-off employees and their family members, beginning at 2 p.m. Dec. 11, according to the report.
The hiring effort comes after Ellwood City Medical Center laid off 92 employees amid financial struggles and a state order to cease inpatient and emergency services.
“It’s heartbreaking to imagine the worries these folks are enduring,” Meghan Sweeney, the owner/operator of the local McDonald’s, told the Ledger. “That’s why I decided to take quick action to help them earn paychecks ASAP.”
State Rep. Aaron Bernstine, whose district includes the hospital, also is supporting the hiring effort.
